ORATS vs Massive

formerly Polygon.io

ORATS data quality is superbly better than others in the market, with Greeks and other volatility fields in the API.

Former Microsoft engineer, multi-year client

ORATS sells institutional-grade US options data: greeks and implied volatility on every strike, plus volatility forecasts, daily since 2007.

Best for ORATS

  • Greeks and implied volatility history on every strike since 2007
  • A smoothed volatility surface, volatility forecasts, and earnings analytics
  • One-minute options chains with greeks since August 2020

Massive sells raw options trades, quotes, and bars, with greeks in live snapshots only.

How far back the data goes

Massive's $29 and $79 plans include 2 and 4 years of history; its docs give the $199 plan all of it. ORATS daily history since 2007 comes with every API plan.

Common questions

Is Massive the same company as Polygon.io?

Yes. Polygon.io renamed itself Massive on October 30, 2025. The polygon.io site redirects to massive.com, and the api.polygon.io endpoints still work alongside api.massive.com.

Does Massive have historical greeks and implied volatility?

Not as of September 2026. Massive computes greeks and implied volatility only in its live snapshot endpoints, and its flat files contain trades, quotes, and bars. ORATS stores greeks, implied volatility, and theoretical values for every strike daily since 2007 and every minute since August 2020.

Can I backtest options strategies with either?

With ORATS, yes. Trading Tools ($99 a month) includes an end-of-day backtester with 45 strategies. Over the API, the Intraday Backtester and Backtest Finder are add-ons to a data plan, and both come with the $899 All-In plan. Massive sells data only, so you would write the backtester and the pricing model yourself.

Which is cheaper, ORATS or Massive?

Massive, for raw data. It has a free end-of-day tier and a $29 plan with 15-minute delayed data. ORATS starts at $199 a month for 15-minute delayed data with greeks and implied volatility history since 2007. Massive does not sell greeks history, forecasts, or backtests at any price.
