Common questions

Is ORATS a good alternative to CML TradeMachine?

Yes, for backtesting. ORATS Trading Tools costs $99 a month, against $149 for TradeMachine Pro on CML's Get Started page; TradeMachine Platinum works out to $83 a month billed yearly. ORATS adds one-minute backtests since October 2020, with stops checked every minute, plus index options and broker order routing.

Does CML TradeMachine backtest intraday?

No. CML's help center says TradeMachine uses end-of-day prices for every entry and exit, taken about 15 minutes before the close, and CML staff have said it has no intraday data for backtesting, so zero-DTE strategies cannot be tested. ORATS backtests on one-minute data since October 2020 for about 140 of the most-traded symbols, alongside its daily engine back to 2007.

How much does CML TradeMachine cost?

TradeMachine Pro is $149 a month and Platinum is $995 a year, about $83 a month, on the pricing page CML's Get Started link opens. Other CML landing pages show other prices, including Pro at '$9 for 9 days', then $69 a month. Annual plans are marked non-refundable. ORATS Trading Tools is $99 a month, $50 less than Pro on the Get Started page, and adds one-minute and zero-DTE backtests and broker routing, with a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours.

Is CML TradeMachine legitimate?

Yes. TradeMachine is a product of Capital Market Laboratories, whose named team includes a former NYSE ARCA and Cboe floor market maker and a co-founder of Livevol, and it has a public help center of more than 170 articles. Before buying, note that its backtests use end-of-day prices, its price differs across landing pages, and the performance figures on its marketing pages are self-reported without methodology.
